Cowboys limber up for Bullarama
BULL riders, be warned - the best of the Dunne family's bucking bulls will be at Duaringa this weekend, determined to keep you off their backs.
Spare a thought for the cowboy who draws That's Gold, the 800kg specially bred athletic bull that has been ridden just once at last year's PBR finals in Sydney for an impressive 91.75 points.
Spare another one for the guys who will be roped to Inmate or Little Brother - two other Dunne bulls that have been ridden very few times and weighing in just short of a tonne each.
"There's no secret to staying on - just hang on tight," owner Tony Dunne said.
"They're in their prime and are sure to be a good ride."
The Dunne family is famous for supplying some of the best bucking beef in the country, and the Duaringa Bullarama this weekend won't disappoint.
For the past 15 years, through a selective breeding program, the Dunne family has mustered up some of the most revered buckers in the country on their property.
"It's just a good hobby," Tony said.
"It's like collecting stamps."
That's Gold is the current PBR Australian Champion Bucking Bull and winner of four PBR international events in the past two years.
Not to be outdone, paddock mate Globetrotter is well on his way to earning a feared reputation in the arena.
"He won the Charters Towers classic a few weeks ago," Tony said.
The action will start this Saturday at 7pm at the Duaringa Sports Complex, with all proceeds to be shared by the Duaringa Town Rural Fire Brigade and the Duaringa Local Ambulance Committee.
Gates open at 5pm.
