Teen killed on notorious crash stretch

UPDATE 7.20AM: A TEENAGER was killed in a tragic single-vehicle rollover on the "Beef Road" near Dingo, Central Queensland last night.

This morning, the Queensland Police Service report the 19-year-old driver was traveling south on the Fitzroy Developmental Road (Beef Road) about 15km north of Dingo when he crashed about 7.30pm.

The young man from Devereux Creek in the Mackay area was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Queensland Fire and Emergency Service attended to assist with fire prevention, and paramedics were also called to the scene near McKenzie Creek.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Just weeks ago, a truck jack-knifed and rolled near the same section just weeks ago about 20km north or Dingo on April 9, about 7.30pm.

The partly-sealed, 103km stretch is notorious for crashes, and links the township of Dingo (148km west of Rockhampton) and the mining town of Middlemount.

The stretch is a thoroughfare for cattle trains and trucks hauling over-sized mining equipment, and shift miners on their way to and from work.

Travelers who frequent the road report sections have given way to the loose gravel lining the road, with many sections unsafe to pull over despite the constant need to make way for large vehicles.

A separate section of the Fitzroy Developmental Road, which links Bauhinia and Taroom was flagged for a $2 million project to improve drainage and seal almost 4km.

The entire road network spans about 454km, 502km including the Dawson and Capricorn highways, and is separated into three segments across the Central Highlands region.

The southern section links Taroom and Bauhinia, the middle section passes through the Dawson Range between Woorabinda and Duaringa, and the northern section runs from Dingo, passes through Middlemount and.

In a separate incident on Central Queensland roads, a man in his 20s was taken to the Emerald Hospital this morning following a crash on Conran and Peak Downs streets, Capella.

The Queensland Ambulance Service report the man crashed into a pole about 1.50am.

The man suffered a head injury, but was stable at the time of transport.
