Public is asked to help after frightening attack at CQUni

POLICE are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman in grasslands near CQUniversity in a frightening attack.

The 41-year-old was walking along Yaamba Rd, near the Carlton St intersection, around 9.15pm on Friday when she was approached by her attacker.

Senior Constable Liam Daley said he attempted to engage her in conversation, but the woman crossed to the eastern side of the highway in an attempt to avoid him.

The man followed her and grabbed her by the arm, but the woman pulled free and ran away.

About 175cm tall, with a stocky build

Has a crew cut hairstyle and around a two day stubble

He was wearing a black or dark blue T-shirt with a silver or white pattern and dark blue jeans with a belt

He chased after her and tackled her to the ground, where she was sexually assaulted in the grassland beside the highway.

Police, including the dog squad, attended the scene and conducted an extensive search, but were unable to locate the man.

The woman was taken to the Rockhampton Hospital.

They are urging anyone who man have seen a man matching the attacker's description (see factbox) to call 1800333000.
