Crane collapse victim Chris Powell was 'very caring guy'

THE photographer killed when a crane collapsed in Brisbane on Monday night has been paid tribute to as a loving father and entrepreneur.

Chris Powell, who was contracted to take pictures of a development site, fell up to 40 metres when the crane toppled next to the Gasworks dining precinct in Newstead.

His son Brendan was assisting him on the project and was also in the crane basket, suffering serious injuries to his arms, legs, back and ribs.

On Tuesday evening, Mr Powell's brother-in-law Luke Riley said Brendan had come out of an induced coma but was expected to remain at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for at least another six weeks.

Mr Riley said Chris Powell, a father of three from Brisbane's northern suburbs, regularly went out of his way to help others and was involved in charity work. "He was certainly very committed to his family," Mr Riley said.
