Man, 20, dead after car fails to stop for police

UPDATE 9.13: The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing its investigation into a fatal traffic crash which occurred in Taigum early this morning.

Initial investigations suggest at 2.40am, police attempted to intercept a hatchback on Murphy Road at Geebung.

The vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away.

A short time later, the car was travelling along Handford Road near the Beams Road intersection when it collided with a power pole.

A male, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The northbound lanes of Handford Road have reopened, however, southbound lanes remain closed.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating.

There is no further information available at this time.

EARLIER: POLICE are currently at the scene of a fatal traffic crash in the Taigum area.

Initial investigations suggest that around 2.41am a vehicle was travelling along Beams Road near Hanford Road when it collided with a power pole.

A man believed to be in his 20's and the sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
