Leaking Arrow gas well capped

UPDATE: A coal seam gas well has been capped more than 24 hours after a major leak began in an Arrow Energy gas field.

The leak began 8.15am yesterday when Arrow Energy contractors were preparing to install a down-hole pump into a well, about 25km west of Dalby.

An Arrow Energy representative said water and gas had begun to flow to the surface of the well with increasing intensity after it had been uncapped to install the pump.

“In accordance with standard procedure, the contractor crew moved a safe distance from the well and advised Arrow personnel,” a company representative said.

“An Arrow Energy incident response team and drilling engineers have put in place a plan to stem the gas flow.

“The standard method in this situation involves filling the well with dense drilling fluids.

“The weight of these fluids acts to prevent the gas flowing to surface.”

The well was successfully capped about 11.30 this morning.
