FORMER Ballina basketballer Nathan Crosswell has been named the Adelaide 36ers vice-captain for the National Basketball League season, which starts this weekend.

Crosswell, who only moved to the 36ers during the off-season, will deputise behind 2.05m forward Adam Ballinger.

Adelaide head coach Marty Clarke said the pair were the logical choices to lead the team.

"Adam and Nathan are both great players that show leadership both on and off the court," he said on the 36ers website.

"This is a very important quality for the captain and vice-captain. They are mentors and role models for some of the younger players on the team."

Ballinger, the 2010 Adelaide 36ers MVP, will lead the team as captain for the fourth consecutive season, after taking the honour from the legendary Brett Maher.

The 36ers 2011/2012 iiNet NBL season starts tomorrow night against the Perth Wildcats.
