Culprits caught in the act

TWO thieves caught in the act rifling through vehicles in Emerald early on Sunday morning will face court charged with a number of enter premises with intent and stealing offences.

A 20-year-old man, who was also charged with two counts of drug possession, and a 16-year-old co-offender are alleged to have stolen small quantities of cash from at least six unlocked vehicles parked in Chalmers Cres, Vanessa Pl and Gladstone St.

Emerald acting officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Mick Polit said the pair was left with no option but to admit guilt after being sprung by police while they were still committing offences in the area about 6am.

He said it was disappointing residents were not heeding the "lock it or lose it" theft awareness campaign and continued to leave vehicles unlocked with valuables inside.

"All vehicles, no matter where they are, need to be secured," Det Sgt Polit said.
