Cyclist in serious condition after collision with van

BREAKING: A cyclist has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after a crash with a van on a busy Sunshine Coast road.

The man, aged in his 30s, collided with the back of the van at the intersection of Karawatha Drive and Rainsford Place about 11.30am today.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman called the male cyclist's injuries "significant."

"He has what's called a closed head injury," QAS spokeswoman said.

"He also has some chest trauma, a fracture to the left wrist and a fracture to the right upper arm.

"He's stable but he does have significant injuries."

Three ambulances, including two critical care units, assessed the man on scene before he was take to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
