A HARDWORKING Cairns dad is happily planning an easier life for him and his family after winning the top prize on a $10 Live the Life Instant Scratch-Its that will deliver him $2,500 a week for the next five years.

The ecstatic winner confessed he had grand plans for the 260 weekly instalments of $2,500, which he won on an Instant Scratch-Its bought from Popular Newsagency in Gordonvale.

While the family man treated himself to a Live the Life Instant Scratch-Its each week, he said the win was a huge shock.

"I nearly had a friggin' heart attack! No joke, I nearly had a heart attack!" he exclaimed.

"It's sort of a ritual that every Saturday I go down and get the paper and get an Scratchie. With this one I got home, made a coffee, read the paper and had a scratch.

"I saw it. I looked at it. I looked at it again. I couldn't believe it. I was speechless!

"My wife had just left for work and so I called her and said 'turn around, come home and make sure this is real'. At first she said she wouldn't because it was April Fools' Day and she thought it was a joke, but I told her it wasn't.

"She said 'if you're mucking around with this, you're in big trouble!'. But she came home and she couldn't believe it either!"

The man admitted he had "too many plans to list" when it came to spending his windfall.

"It's just going to make life so much easier," he said.

"I'm going to pay off my house, do renovations, and hopefully after a while I can look at starting my own business so I can work for myself. I'll even be able to put money away for the kids for uni!

"It's going to set us up for life!"

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the winning Instant Scratch-Its ticket at Popular Newsagency in Gordonvale.

Popular Newsagency owner Aaron Andreassen said he was thrilled about selling a top prize winning Instant Scratch-Its - the outlet's first since he took ownership 13 months ago.

"It's fantastic that a regular customer won the top prize! Congratulations and I hope he enjoys his prize!" he exclaimed.

"Locals love Instant Scratch-Its so hopefully we will see some more wins roll their way!"
