Daintree resort offered for sale

OCEAN Hotels and Tourism will release for sale its boutique waterfront property, Cape Tribulation Resort.

Group general manager of Ocean Hotels and Tourism, Nicola Constantinidis said the board wanted to sell the resort to consolidate the company’s assets which were predominantly mid-market, larger-scale products.

“With all of our other accommodation assets pitched at the 3-3.5-star market and operating between 100 and 160 rooms, Cape Tribulation Resort differs greatly,” she said.

“Comprising just 66 rooms, this is a smaller, boutique-style property positioned across the higher level 4-4.5 star market and would better suit special-interest environmental/eco-tourism groups or owner-operators.”

Australian eco-tourism resorts were not subject to the same intense competition from destinations like Bali, Phuket and Fiji that other Australian beach-style resorts faced.

“Our group considers Cape Tribulation Resort to be a truly special property and valuable asset that would quite simply be better suited to a more specialised, eco-style operator,” Ms Constantinidis said.

The resort, on Coconut Beach in the Daintree rainforest’s Cape Tribulation area, has design elements made from Australian timber.

Cape Tribulation Resort has rainforest cabin-style accommodation for up to 130 guests, beachfront swimming pool and restaurant.

The resort will be offered for sale by expressions of interest and will be advertised nationwide later this month.

Ocean Hotels and Tourism was established in 1987.

The company owns and operates Club Crocodile Resort, Airlie Beach and Long Island Resort in the Whitsundays, Hides Hotel in Cairns, Ferntree and Cape Tribulation Resort in Cape Tribulation and Sunlover Reef Cruises.
