Decision on Patel appeal on Friday

FORMER Bundaberg surgeon Jayant Patel will learn on Friday if his High Court appeal against manslaughter convictions has been successful.

It's now more than two years since a Supreme Court jury found Patel guilty of the manslaughter of three patients and causing grievous bodily harm to another.

Patel was jailed for seven years over the deaths, which occurred while he was working as a surgeon in Bundaberg Hospital from 2003-05.

He failed to have the convictions overturned in the Court of Appeal, but the High Court granted special leave in February to hear the case.

The High Court hearing was held in June, with the judgment to be handed down at noon on Friday.
