Delay in case of mum accused of poisoning daughter
THE evidence brief relating to a Queensland mum accused of poisoning her young daughter with chemotherapy drugs will be ready in September.
The Crown asked, in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday, for an extra eight weeks to prepare the brief against the mum, who grew up in Mackay but now lives on the Gold Coast.
The woman, 22, was charged with grievous bodily harm while her daughter battled serious illness in the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane.
She is accused of giving her daughter chemotherapy drugs she allegedly bought over the internet to fight cancer over 10 months.
The woman, who cannot be named to protect her daughter's identity, diarised her daughter's illness on Facebook to more than 7000 followers as her daughter underwent tests in hospital which police now say she caused.
The Crown must hand over the full brief by September 16.
The case will return to court on September 30 for further mention after defence has had time to review the material.
