AUSTRALIA'S Erin Densham has claimed a gutsy bronze medal in a dramatic finish to the women's triathlon on Day Eight.

Densham held off American Sarah Groff to finish in a time of 1:59:50 and claim the bronze medal following a four-way sprint to the line.

Nicola Spirig of Switzerland won gold despite appearing to finish level with Sweden's Lisa Norden.

Both women finished in a time of 1:59:48 seconds in gripping battle down the final 100 metres, with Spirig awarded the gold on review.

Australia's Emma Jackson finished eighth, but team-mate Emma Moffatt failed to complete the course after crashing on the bike leg on a corner near Buckingham Palace.
