THE Clarence Valley hamlet of Nymboida is about to see its name up in lights when a short film made there appears on the big screen in Bangalow today.

The film, Dingo Love, has been selected as a finalist in this year's Byron Bay All Shorts Film Festival, which showcases local and emerging short film makers.

The film features local character, former Australian boxing champion John Cooper, and his dingo pack.

Filmed on Cooper's farm, which lies at the foothills of the Chaelundi National Park, you get a sense he is the quintessential wild colonial boy.

Mr Cooper has been breeding his own dingos for the past two years and is now accepted as one of the pack. The story centres on Mr Cooper's idea of using his own pack to protect his farm from other dingos.

There are a number of humorous moments in the film when Mr Cooper, a keen musician, plays the harmonica to his pack resulting in an unexpected chorus.

But this film debut doesn't stop there for Mr Cooper and his dingos. It has also been officially selected to appear at Australia's largest film festival, the Byron Bay International Film Festival (BBFF) in March.

Dingo Love was produced and directed by Debrah Novak as part of an ABC Open project.
