Director named one of state's most influential women

A FEARLESS Toowoomba leader has been named one of Queensland's five most influential women in community services, according to the Community Services Industry Alliance.

Quality Lifestyle Support director Robyn Cavanagh was featured in the line-up revealed at an International Women's Day event earlier this month.

Quality Lifestyle Support in Mort St provides respite, in-home care, community access to professional services as well as disability support.

Mrs Cavanagh said it was a strange but humbling feeling to receive the nomination.

"I don't do this for me. We've been going for 20 years and we support more than 140 people and have 170 staff. People come to us because I guess they know we do what we say," she said.

"I finished school in Year 11, was married at 19, had three kids by 23 and then I went to university so you can do whatever you want to do - don't let anyone tell you any differently."

CSIA CEO Belinda Drew said Mrs Cavanagh successfully challenged the not-for-profit model of delivering disability support.

"She did this more than 20 years ago when it was a highly innovative thing to do," she said.

"Along with her husband, she built a for-profit, client-centred business that has flourished in the face of most people believing her services were the domain of not-for-profit entities."
