BANANA Shire Council has launched a new online disaster management dashboard, which it says will provide a comprehensive, user-friendly platform for residents to use in the event of a natural disaster.

Designed to be a one-stop shop for information and updates, the dashboard will allow residents and visitors to the shire to check on the latest weather warnings, road conditions, power outages and emergency news.

A live, interactive map of the Banana Shire dominates the page, with road closures and other situations such as potential active centres clearly marked.

Links to helpful contacts, river height information, social media pages and tips for being prepared are also available.

Last week it was announced Banana Shire Library would be fitted out as a back-up disaster co-ordination centre for the Local Disaster Management Group, to be used in the event the council chambers are damaged.

The disaster management dashboard project was funded under the RACQ Get Ready Queensland program.

The dashboard can be found online at emd.banana.qitplus.com
