ONE of the advantages of living on the Sunshine Coast is that if you do not like the weather, you just have to wait a short while and it will improve.
With that in mind, the key to keeping active during the winter months on the Sunshine Coast is flexibility and cross-training.
Flexibility in what activities you intend to take part in for any given day can make the difference between doing something and doing nothing.
Recently, we had a week of cold temperatures and rain.
Use of community pools and jogging trails decreased, as did the number of people training on the beaches and the ocean.
One week later, the weather was just the opposite - blue skies, no rain and temperatures in the low 20s.
The weather does make a big difference for most people, unless they are training for a specific event.
It can greatly alter a person's motivation and ability to participate in physical activity.
One technique to overcome this is to have two to three exercises you will be conducting during the winter and determine which of those exercises you will do on any specific day, based on the weather.
The ability to be flexible in our exercise routine and to cross-train can provide opportunities for us to be physically active most days of the week.
