OPINION: Gluttony on The Biggest Loser makes me feel ill
I DON'T know about anyone else, but watching The Biggest Loser on television on Sunday night had me reaching for the spinach leaves.
I felt physically ill watching these people devour entire cakes, topped with ice cream - just for a snack.
One guy had an entire box of sugary cereal for breakfast. The whole thing!
Another woman had a family-size lasagne for lunch, to herself. Watching, my jaw firmly planted on the floor, I instantly wanted to do a total pantry clean-out, ditching any remnants of chocolate or sugary snacks.
Suddenly I felt extra guilty about missing those gym sessions last week and vowed to go on an extra-focussed health kick. I guess that's why they show these programs.
It just astounds me how people let themselves get this way. Don't they feel sick after eating a 4L tub of ice cream for breakfast?
Don't they think - 'oh wait, maybe I should eat some real food and I would feel better'? I actually don't understand it. I have never really been into The Biggest Loser or watched more than one episode a series, but this one's got me hooked from the get-go.
I imagine many other people would be in the same boat as me - astounded by these stories. But then I think there is bound to be a lot of people who are in the sinking boat with those contestants on the show.
Good on them for auditioning to change their lives and make smarter decisions so they will live to see their children grow up or get married.
So I urge anyone with remotely similar diets to those afore mentioned to wise up to just what you are doing to your bodies. There is a really great life out there, but you aren't living it from the sideline.
