Ways to beat NYE alcohol blues

The dreaded hangover , the scorn of alcohol past, the vile aftermath of a big night has been known since biblical times:

“Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may pursue strong drink. Who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them” (Isaiah 5:11).

Luckily, there are tricks to help prevent and alleviate hangovers:

Keep it clear

‘Congeners’ are chemicals in alcohol which increase the severity of a hangover. The darker a liquor’s colour, the more congeners so stick to white rum, vodka or gin.

Drink juice

The fructose in fruit juice helps the body burn alcohol and remove it from your system. In addition, alterations to the liver’s metabolic state can result in low blood sugar and juice will give you a boost.

Alcohol robs your body of water, vitamins and minerals. Your system needs more vitamin B when it’s under strain, so take B-complex vitamins for energy support and stress relief and drink lots of water.
