Driver caught doing 150kmh between Ipswich, Toowoomba

POLICE are furious that Queenslanders continue to gamble with death on our roads, after a driver was caught doing almost 150kmh in a 100 zone between Toowoomba and Ipswich.

Matching the most dangerously fast driver in the state, the moronic act was captured by police on the Warrego Highway at Hatton Vale doing 148kmh.

Another driver on the same day was caught doing the same speed in a 100 zone on the Gateway Motorway.

In Maryborough, a driver blew 0.258 when breath tested -- more than five times the legal limit.

In the past 24 hours, police have handed out 1318 fines across Queensland, as the total number of tickets handed out for the Christmas year and New Year's period top 12,000.

A Nerang driver was killed on the Pacific Motorway on Thursday afternoon.

The man in his 60s lost his life on the same day another Nerang driver was caught drunk behind the wheel. They blew 0.244, more than four times the limit.

The fatality counter now sits at three since police launched the Operation Crossroads traffic blitz on December 23.

It will run until January 3.
