Drug dealer cleans up, then helps police convict him

THE time that Reis Mitchell Breslin spent dealing methamphetamine isn't a time he is proud of.

By the time police came knocking on his door, as part of an investigation into another man, Breslin had distanced himself from the drug scene - but rather than try and hide his history, he came clean to police.

That's what landed him in Rockhampton District Court yesterday, where he was jailed after pleading guilty to two counts of trafficking dangerous drugs.

The court heard Breslin was selling meth and cannabis in Calliope between March 17 and June 2, 2014.

But defence barrister Tom Polley said he had distanced himself from drugs months before he was detected.

"The evidence against him in the trafficking charge came from his own lips," he said.

"It's a time in his life he wasn't proud of and he wanted to move on and get it out in the open so he wouldn't fall back into that lifestyle."

Justice Duncan McMeekin said without Breslin's co-operation police would not have been able to confirm his involvement.

Nine months ago Breslin welcomed twin girls with his partner of eight years, and she began sobbing as he was sentenced.

Mr Polley said Breslin had a solid work history, with the only significant period of unemployment during the time the drug offences occurred.

His current employer was one of many people who submitted character references, and Justice McMeekin said the letters gave him confidence Breslin's rehabilitation attempts were genuine.

He was sentenced to three years jail, to be suspended after six months, with a four year operation period.
