Drug trafficking charges for former Origin star adjourned

DRUG trafficking charges against former Queensland State of Origin and NRL star Jason Paul Smith, 43, and co-accused Jason Matthew Wood, 43, have been adjourned by a Toowoomba court.

Neither defendant was in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday for the brief mention of their matters and neither has been required to enter any plea to a charge of trafficking.

The court heard legal representatives for the two men would need time to go through the extensive amount of police material and that investigators could still have further material to produce.

Magistrate Bruce Schemioneck remanded both men on bail and adjourned the matters for committal mention back in the same court on December 16.
