WHAT do you get when two of Europe’s most rock ‘n roll brewers — Denmark’s Mikkeller and Scotland’s BrewDog — come together in a blended beer fantasy? The answer is a brilliant, hoppy-filled creation lovingly titled, I Hardcore You. A 9.5% Imperial India Pale Ale, I Hardcore You is a ‘hop bomb’. To make it, the already hoppy I Beat yoU from Mikkeller was fused together with BrewDog’s Hardcore IPA, then dry hopped twice and then again, and maybe once or twice more.
In any case the result is an amber, hop-loving brew that is gaining accolades from Scotland to Denmark and beyond. So too is the packaging. Illustrated by New Jersey-based Keith Shore and creative agency Union, the labels tell the tale of an amorous coming together, not unlike that of Mikkeller and BrewDog.
The alliance couldn’t make more sense. Mikkeller is the brand of two young one-time homebrewers who took their hobby international. Today, the creative brewery is named one of the best not only in Denmark but also in the world. BrewDog’s have a similar story to tell. The mastermind of two twenty-something Scots, this independent brewery is dedicated to turning out contemporary, cool beers with an innovative twist. I Hardcore You certainly falls neatly under this category. But, be warned — this one-off brew is available only in limited quantities. I Hardcore You, indeed.
