Easter eggs arrive early

JUST when you thought it was safe to return to the fridge — the next wave of seasonal confectionary has hit the supermarket shelves.

A selection of Easter eggs are now available for sale at Coles supermarkets in Toowoomba.

Despite Easter Sunday being 108 days away, Coles supermarket spokesperson Jim Cooper said it was not an unusal to see Easter eggs in January.

"For the past four or five years, at this time of the year, Easter eggs are in stores," Mr Cooper said.

Mr Cooper said Coles expected to sell "hundreds of thousands" Easter eggs this month.

While browsing the shelves at Coles in Grand Central yesterday, teenagers Caitlin Postle and Jade Moffatt were surprised, and excited, to see the range of Easter eggs already on display.

“I didn’t even know it was Easter,” Jade said.

However, both will try to resist the temptation to indulge in the chocolate delights before April 24.

“The cream eggs are my favourite,” Jade said.

“They are so good.”

"We are retailers," he said.

"We don’t put anything on our shelf that we don’t expect people would buy."

Mr Cooper said Coles bakeries would start producing hot cross buns next week.
