ECQ hopes for election outcome by week's end

MORE than half the seats in Queensland have been officially declared and the Electoral Commission of Queensland hopes to finalise the overall outcome by the end of the week.

A total 56 seats out of 89 were declared by late yesterday afternoon. On Tuesday, which was the deadline for the ECQ to receive postal votes, 35 seats were declared. While the ECQ was hoping to declare another 30 yesterday, it only managed to finalise another 21 by late afternoon.

The controversial seat of Ferny Grove was among the seats declared yesterday.

Mirani also officially went to Labor's Jimmy Pearce. Labor's Bill Byrne took out the seat of Rockhampton yesterday and the LNP's Ann Leahy was officially declared the winner of the seat of Warrego. An ECQ representative said their hope to finalise all 89 seats by Friday was contingent on all counts being completed in the remaining seats.
