Eight year sentence for Coast one-punch death

A SUNSHINE Coast man responsible for a late-night one-punch death on the Mooloolaba Esplanade has been sentenced to eight years jail.

Jesse James Patrick, 23, pleaded guilty in the Brisbane Supreme Court to the 2014 manslaughter of Bruce "Wolf" Steensen.

The court heard on 22 February 2014 Mr Steensen saw Patrick yelling abuse at a passing car and told him to "pull his head in".

The two got into a brief scuffle before being pulled away from each other. Mr Steensen walked away but Patrick run up behind him and punched him in the head.

Mr Steensen hit his head on the ground and fractured his skull. He did not recover.

Speaking outside court Mr Steensen's mother Gloria said she was happy with the result and said the Steensen family and Patrick family had amicably come together to share their grief.
