Elderly couple rescued from mangled wreck after rollover

AN ELDERLY couple were recovering in hospital on Friday night after being rescued from the mangled wreck of their car on the Maryborough Hervey Bay Rd.

The man and woman, believed to be in their 60s, were travelling towards Hervey Bay, near the Piggford Lane turn-off when their car veered off the road, rolled and landed in a ditch.

Firefighters had to remove the car roof to free the couple, who were taken to hospital for observation.

The couple's pet dog was taken to the Hervey Bay Police Station and given the all-clear from a vet.
