AN elderly man has been airlifted to hospital by RACQ CareFlight Rescue after he was kicked and knocked over by a cow on a property near Kilkivan in the South Burnett region.

The man was hit in the chest and kicked in the jaw by the cow.

He suffered a suspected chest injury.

The Sunshine Coast RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the property west of Gympie around 10am.

He was treated at the scene by QAS and CareFlight's medical team before he was flown to Nambour General Hospital.

He travelled in a stable condition.
