Emerald bloke to star on The Great Australian Bake Off
MEET Emerald bloke who loves to bake.
Ben is one of 12 contestants in the upcoming new season of The Great Australian Bake Off.
The show has been revamped by Foxtel and will be hosted by comedians Claire Hooper and Mel Buttle, with Matt Moran and Maggie Beer serving as judges.
Ben, 37, is a mining inventory planner whose interesting in baking was inspired by a night in front of the tellie.
"I have always liked cooking but never really took it seriously until I watched a documentary that was going on about macarons and Adriano Zumbo," he said.
"I just couldn't make them so I emailed Zumbo and he replied to me. A few emails went back and forth until I could make them properly."
The self-confessed geek who likes the science of baking eventually nailed macarons after six months of failure. It is this determination that may prove a challenge for his fellow bakers.
"I want to prove to myself that I can bake," he said.
"I seek challenging things to push myself. I don't see the point in baking something that everyone else can bake."
The Great Australian Bake Off premieres on October 13 at 8.30pm on LifeStyle FOOD.
