PASSERS-BY stopped and helped free a woman from her four-wheel drive vehicle when it lost traction and rolled on a muddy Gemfields road on Wednesday.

Anakie officer in charge Sergeant Brad Cowell said constant rain was the cause of the treacherous conditions on a section of Keilambete Rd about 4km from Rubyvale.

“With the recent rain, a female who lives at Reward and has driven the same road many times and in many conditions, was driving slowly on the section of unsealed dirt road which had become a mud slip and slide,” he said.

“She completely lost traction and control. The vehicle rolled on to the driver’s side and she had difficulty getting out until people stopped to help her.”

The woman was uninjured.

“It is a timely reminder, regardless of how much experience you have as a driver, no amount of experience is going to save you when the road is in that condition,” Sgt Cowell said.
