EMERALD is set to receive its fourth set of traffic lights at the intersection of Clermont and Ruby streets.

Construction is due to commence mid-year for the new $2.8 million project, Minister for Main Roads Craig Wallace announced yesterday.

“Clermont St and Ruby St are both major roads connecting east-west and north-south traffic through the heart of Emerald and as a result, high volumes of traffic pass through this intersection daily,” he said.

“This set of signals will be synchronised with the three other sets... so all traffic movements will be as efficient as possible.”

Member for Gregory Vaughan Johnson welcomed the announcement, and said the new traffic lights reflected Emerald’s growth.

“Extensive consultation will take place prior to construction to ensure impacts on businesses are minimised,” he said.

“Emerald is becoming a metropolis of significance and when you get the large volume of traffic through Hospital Rd onto Clermont St, it’s paramount for the safe progression of traffic and the safety of pedestrians.”
