Erin Brockovich at Oakey for water contamination fight

ABOUT 300 Oakey residents are expected to meet with high-profile legal crusader Erin Brockovich in town tonight as the battle against underground water contamination continues.

Ms Brockovich will meet with impacted locals in the Darling Downs town with law firm Shine Lawyers who will update residents on the class action pending against the Department of Defence.

A spokeswoman for Shine Lawyers said about 300 people were expected at the Oakey Cultural Centre from 6.30pm to question Ms Brockovich and lawyers representing the class action.

"The main purpose is to meet with locals and provide them with an update on the class action and the responses from Defence (department)," she said.

"Erin will consult with them, provide guidance and assistance and draw on her quite extensive experience in dealing with claims like this."

Much of tonight's meeting is expected to include the next steps after the release last week of the Environmental Site Assessment report.

The ESA was the preceding step to the Human Health Risk Assessment Report which is due to be released at the end of the month.

The Shine Lawyers spokeswoman said the meeting would update residents on the work being done between the law firm and the Department of Defence.
