PARTS of south-west Queensland have been hammered by strong winds so extreme that a truck was blown on its side.

There were reports wind speeds reached an extraordinary 120kmh at Kingaroy during yesterday afternoon's storms.

Higgins Storm Chasing's Facebook page has shared a photograph taken by Donna Corr of a truck allegedly blown over by the extreme winds.

"This truck was flipped over by the wind just near Barcaldine," Donna said.

"My daughter was behind it. She had to pull over as her car could only do 20kmh against the head winds coming at them.

"Very scared and shaken up but okay. Truck driver has injured his shoulder but otherwise appears okay."
