Model has eye on Miss Universe

AUSTRALIA'S next supermodel could be hiding in Piggabeen.

Alieda Ross, 16, has been discovered by arguably Australia's most successful model scout.

The blonde beauty will also audition for reality TV show Australia's Next Top Model on Saturday.

“I'm just hoping to make it into the top 100,” Alieda said.

“It would be a bonus if I made it into the house.”

The Year 11 student said she looked up to Jennifer Hawkins and Miranda Kerr and one day hoped to model for Victoria's Secret.

“I would love to win Miss Australia,” she said.

And with the help of talent scout Henry Petersen, she just might.

Mr Petersen discovered Alieda about three months ago on Facebook, and said “after nine years you get to know what you're looking for”.

“You've got to be at least 175cm tall to make it as a professional model, which Alieda is,” Mr Petersen said.

“She's got a very athletic-type look about her and I think you've got to have that.”

Mr Petersen, of Townsville, scouted three of the past four Miss Universe Australia winners, including Rachael Finch and Jesinta Campbell.

“You need to get them at 16 to sort out all the things they've got to be doing and not doing and get to know them,” he said.

“If Alieda's a polished speaker by the time she's 18 she'll be perfect for Miss Universe Australia in 2013.

“It's very hard to find any faults in her.”

Off the catwalk, Alieda competes in show jumping and eventing.
