Family home won't appear in pension asset test

INCLUDING the family home in the age pension asset test has been ruled out despite new claims about wealthier retirees receiving benefits.

National Centre for Social and Economic Modelling reportedly released findings on Tuesday that retirees aged 65 or over with assets worth $2 million or more were still receiving $500 million in welfare annually.

The researchers found the retirees' biggest asset was their home.

But Social Services Minister Scott Morrison denied all suggestions he was considering proposals to means test homes.
