STRAP yourself in for the fastest Volkswagen Golf GTI ever.
Expected to arrive mid-year, the Golf GTI 40 Years variant will pack a 195 kilowatt punch from its turbocharged direct injection four-cylinder petrol engine. That's 33 extra kilowatts over the current base GTI variant.
Only available as a five-door, pricing is yet to be released but expect it to slot between GTI and the R.
For a short time - about 10 seconds each time - the driver can increase engine power by an additional 10% to more than 216 kilowatts using a boost function. This added power is unleashed by kicking down the accelerator.
The Golf GTI Clubsport sprints to 100kmh in six seconds with a six-speed manual gearbox; the optional six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) is even faster at 5.9 seconds. The Golf GTI Clubsport has a top speed of 250kmh (DSG: 249 kmh).
