Father of two caught with 21,000 child porn images

A FATHER of two has pleaded guilty to possessing more than 21,000 child pornography images.

The man faced Maryborough District Court yesterday morning, charged with distributing child exploitation images and possessing child exploitation images.

The court heard that in January, police executed searches of the man's computer and found folders of child pornography images and videos.

Crown Prosecutor Gavin Webber said the young girls in the images found ranged in age from under 10-years-old to teenagers.

Defence Barrister Paul Rutledge said his client had fallen into a deep depression after separating from his partner, and had become addicted to the pornography.

He said any term of imprisonment would be difficult for his client, as he faced being attacked in prison.

"Within two hours of arriving [in pre-sentence custody] my client was assaulted," Mr Rutledge said.

"Since then he has been punched and kicked.

"That's the life in jail he's had and will continue to have."

Judge Paul Smith sentenced the man to serve 18 months imprisonment for distributing the images, and 12 months for possession of the material.

The man is expected to serve most of his sentence on probation after two months behind bars.
