Liam Solinas, Shearna Smith, Cameron and Brodie Scales celebrate a rewarding end to the year.

WHAT he lacked in height, Blake Verzelletti made up for in heart in his boxing bout at the weekend.

Representing the Emerald Fighters Inc. Gym, Blake was up against Blackwater's Cameron Scales who had the height advantage.

The fight went to three rounds before Cameron claimed his first win.

The Emerald Fighters Inc. boxing tournament was the last one of the year with Bobby Washington, Liam Solinas, Shearna Smith, Brodie Scales, all from Blackwater, joining Cameron in weighing in on the night.

Bobby and Shearna were unable to be matched, but gave good support to their other three teammates who were lucky enough to be matched.

First into the ring was Liam Solinas, who came up against Ben Mulvahil, from the CQMMA Club in Rockhampton, in the 51kg division.

This was the two boys' third meeting and was always going to be a tough bout as proven in the two previous meetings which Liam narrowly won.

Both boys boxed well through the three rounds but it was the fitness of Mulvahil that proved to be the difference in the end with the Rocky boxer getting the win by split points.

Following after his brother, Brodie Scales stepped up to the intermediate division to come up against Matt McLeod, also from the CQMMA Club.

Both boys boxed well in what was a very tough fight but McLeod got caught with a few of the awkward southpaw's straight lefts which proved to be the telling factor.

The split points decision went to young Brodie Scales.
