Figures show our pollies' 'average' spending habits
EXPENDITURE figures on entitlements by federal politicians have been released and they reveal that our local members have been moderate in their spending.
The figures relate to parliamentarians' expenditure on entitlements paid by the Department of Finance for July 1 to December 31 last year.
Oxley MP Bernie Ripoll's overseas travel expenditure for the period has fallen from $60,823.17 to $13,969.24 as he is no longer parliamentary secretary to the treasurer. The role previously took him out of the country. Mr Ripoll's other expenditure was average compared to other politicians, as was that of Blair MP Shayne Neumann and Wright MP Scott Buchholz.
All politicians' expenses were higher for this period than the same time in 2012 due to the election in 2013.

Mr Neumann's overseas travel expenses were zero.
The Blair MP said he used his entitlements properly.
"I'm very scrupulous in making sure my entitlements are absolutely accurate," Mr Neumann said. "I use the expenditure for the purpose for which it is granted.
"I would have thought my office expenditure for newspapers, periodicals, print and communications would be reflective of doing my job.
"You've got to have those communications entitlements to do your job effectively."
Mr Neumann's role as shadow minister for indigenous affairs has taken him to remote communities but most of his travel is done locally. "I don't think anyone could say I have neglected the Blair electorate," Mr Neumann said.
"I have done close to 100 mobile offices since the last election which is a good indication that I have been available to constituents."
