Final countdown for netball competition

THERE can be no better preparation for competition finals than competition itself and Emerald’s junior netballers have their eye squarely on the prize after a hard hit-out at their annual carnival at the weekend.

With the regional carnival now done and dusted, the attention turns to matches closer to home and the conclusion of the Emerald club’s 2011 season.

Few points separate for both senior and junior teams ahead of next week’s semi-finals and the finish is sure to be a nail-biter.

In the juniors’ intermediate division, minor premiers Tooty Fruities will play Wildcatz in the major semi-final, while Phoenix and Kit Katz will be aiming to keep their finals hopes alive in the minor semi.

Due to a number of players in this division being away on school camps next week, the date for the intermediate games is yet to be confirmed.

Monday night will, however, see minor premiers Claws take on Hellcatz in the Cadet B major semi, with Dynamite and Gidgets facing off in the other match.

In the Cadet A division, minor premiers Young Guns will be out to finish off a good season when they face Mystix for a spot in the grand final and Foxy Ladies meet Pure Ninja in the minor semi.

In the seniors, the final rankings in Division 1 came down to the results of the last round of fixtures, with Phoenix just edging out Meerkats to take the minor premiers title. The two sides will now meet in Tuesday night’s major semi-final. Cyclones will play Hulk in the minor semi-final.

Division 2 minor premiers, ABM Mofo’s, will be looking to secure their semi-final berth when they face an equally determined Benchwarmers in the major semi. C Boms and HHH Partners will contest the minor semi-final in this division.

The Division 3 major semi will be contested by minor premiers Hot Shots and second-placed CQ News. BABZ and Bee and Bees will be keen to keep their season alive when the meet in the minor semi-final. The winners of each major semi-final will go through to the grand finals, with the losers to play the winner of the minor semi for the other grand final spot.
