Finest budgies flock to show

THERE was plenty of preening and posing going on at the Woocoo Community Hall at the weekend when Queensland's finest budgerigars went on show.

Hosted by the Fraser Coast Budgerigar Society, the 74th Annual Championship Show was a great success, attracting almost 200 entries from across the state.

Club secretary Stephen Ribchester said everyone – including two nationally accredited judges from Brisbane – was impressed by the high standard of birds.

He said all kinds of varieties of pedigree budgies were entered in the 52 sections.

“We had competitors from as far north as Gladstone and as far south as Caboolture.

“The Grand Champion Bird of the show was entered by a couple from Bargara.”

Mr Ribchester said the Fraser Coast Budgerigar Society was particularly proud of the success of the 74th Annual Championship Show considering it was a small organisation with 27 members.

“It's definitely an achievement for small clubs to attain in our community,” he said. “The fact that it's been going for 74 years is a feat in itself.”

Fraser Coast Budgerigar Society meets once a month.
