Fire alarm blows lid on suspected drug lab

Police are investigating following the discovery of a suspected drug lab at an apartment building at Broadbeach in the early hours of this morning.

Around 5am police were called after an oven door was blown off during the suspected preparation of drugs.

The sprinklers were activated in the Gold Coast Highway apartment with residents being evacuated as a precaution.

The male occupant of the unit fled but was located by police a short time later nearby.

A 23-year old Broadbeach man is assisting police with their enquiries.

No one was injured during the incident.
