Blackwater fire causes damage

A FIRE that threatened the town limits of Blackwater on Monday burnt out an estimated 800-1200ha of land.

QFRS Blackwater lieutenant Mal McIver said the cause of the blaze, on the southern side of the Capricorn Hwy near the Rangal substation, was unknown.

"We protected the town limits, with fire near the speedway, BMX track and water filtration plant under control first," Lt McIver said.

"The storm that came through helped to put the fire out."

Ergon crews responded to repair 10 high-voltage power poles damaged during the blaze.
