UPDATE: 60 customers still affected by power outage in CBD
UPDATE 9.45AM: Ergon Energy Central Cororate Communications manager Robert Pleash said 60 customers are still being impacted by this morning's power outage.
He said Ergon Energy crews are working to hook businesses up a generation supply while they try to fix the problem.
"Power was interrupted to 1500 in the Mackay CBD area after a high voltage switching station malfunctioned," he said.
"The incident occured 5.44am this morning and emergency services responded to a bang and a small fire which was brought under control.
"Ergon Energy crews made scene safe."
Mr Pleash said most customers were back online 8.20am
UPDATE 7.53am: Ergon energy says 579 customers have been affected with a large power outage in Mackay CBD this morning.
According to the energy retailer, customers were affected on Macalister St, Alfred St, Nelson St, Wood St, Brisbane St, Tennyson St, River St, Sydney St, Victoria St, Gordon St, Carlyle St and Gregory St.
Police are still directing traffic at major CBD intersections.
INITIAL: Firefighters attended to a fire in an electrical transformer near Mackay Grande Suites, which has left many without power now.
A QFES spokesman said the fire occurred at the top of the hotel's carpark about 6.05am.
He said thre crew attended and two firefighters extinguished the blaze by 6.28am.
No one was injured but paramedics did attended
Many have been left without power including businesses along Gregory St.
Police are doing traffic control along Gordon St.
