FIRE has ravaged a car on the side of a major Sunshine Coast road.

Fire crews were called to the Sunshine Motorway in Sippy Downs yesterday amid reports that a car had been engulfed by flames.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said that the car was already engulfed by fire when crews arrived just before 4pm.

It took firefighters more than half an hour to extinguish the blaze.

Queensland Police were also roused, with a QPS spokeswoman confirming that they were called to a car fire, but not a traffic crash.

The QPS spokeswoman said "the driver had already left" when crews arrived.
