Firebirds ready to match Vixens

DESPITE going into the ANZ Championship final against the minor premiers, Queensland Firebirds captain Laura Geitz is confident her side will match up well against the Melbourne Vixens today in Melbourne.

Former Allora student Laura Geitz and Clare McMeniman, who went to Warwick West State School, didn't play netball together on the Southern Downs but combined for Australia in a World Youth Championships in Florida in 2005, the Canberra Darters while at the AIS and now for the Queensland Firebirds.

McMeniman is back this year after a break from the sport and Geitz said their combination had really worked well in the past five weeks.

"We are back to knowing each other's styles," she said.

"The girls were really disappointed to lose the final by two goals last year and believe we match up pretty well with the Vixens.

"We will need to play better netball and raise the bar to make the final."
