Forget anti-stress medication and just deep breath
AN alternative to strict diets, anti-stress tablets and yoga therapy could just be one breath away.
University of the Sunshine Coast graduate Kat Tucker and Art of Breathing founder, Bodhi Whitaker have fine-tuned a breathing program called they believe can revolutionise health.
Already 26 schools across the Sunshine Coast, including Coolum High, have registered for the Breathe Project program and are embracing it as a healthy way of dealing with stress.
"It is the simplest and most effective way of relieving stress and anxiety," Kat said.
"Rather than medication, yoga or focusing on food, you can do this."
The couple are so passionate about the program, they have sold their home and bought a van to take it across the East Coast of Australia.
"It is simply and effective," Kat said.
"You don't need to spend thousands on psychiatrists or super foods to relieve stress and anxiety."
Their breathe workshop takes 45 minutes to teach the technique and then teachers are encouraged to incorporate into the classroom for three minutes a day.
They mastered the technique in India.
"The technique is really super simple," Kat said.
"It involves a full diaphragmatic breath. The diaphragm is the breathing muscle under the rib cage and a lot of us don't use it to breathe anymore.
"We are living in a flight or fight response.
"But when you control the breath, you control the mind."
