Former Coast Bandidos president charged with extortion

POLICE investigating alleged extortion activity by members of the Bandidos Criminal Motorcycle Gang have today taken further action in their investigations.

Taskforce Maxima detectives with the assistance from the Sunshine Coast Gang Squad issued the former president of the Sunshine Coast Chapter of the Bandidos CMG with a notice to appear for the offence of extortion.

It will be alleged the 41-year-old Beerwah man forced a person to sign over their business, valued at approximately $200,000.

He is expected to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on 15 February 2015.

Today's action follows the arrest of the alleged national president of the Bandidos CMG yesterday.

Detective Inspector Brendan Smith of Taskforce Maxima said: "This investigation provides a clear example of senior members being involved in what is an extremely serious crime, and how the criminality of these gangs goes all the away to the top, this is not the case of a junior member."
