Former police officers to stand trial for alleged rape

TWO former Mackay police constables accused of rape have been committed to stand trial in the District Court.

Trent Christopher Birthisel and Rudy Clarence Nonis appeared in the Mackay Magistrates Court yesterday for a committal hearing where six witnesses were scheduled to be cross examined.

Birthisel and Nonis are each charged with five counts of rape, one count of deprivation of liberty and one count of assault with intent to commit rape. Both have been committed to the higher court on all charges.

The media was denied permission to report on the evidence given by the witnesses.
